Barón Balché In 1997, the Rios family acquired a 50 year old vineyard in the Guadalupe Valley. They began to make homemade wine only. Eventually, Don Jesus Rios decided to modify their facilities and shortly after became a more commercial project. This new venture began when Don Jesus Rios collaborated with Dr. Victor Torres, a Mexican enologist accredited with a Doctorate degree from the University of Enology in Bordeaux, France. They began the regeneration and propagation processes of different varietals in their vineyards such as Malbec, Merlot, Carignan, Cabernet Franc, Zinfandel, Grenache and more in the Guadalupe Valley to create Barón Balché.
